Will the Fifty Shades of Grey movie be the next “Citizen Kane”?

The notion of the foremost exemplar of “mommy porn” being translated to film by the foremost delineator of late-capitalist decadence struck me as both weirdly apropos and a major waste of talent. And when Ellis tossed out the name of David Cronenberg as a potential director? That was overkill.

I’ll admit the idea of the director of “They Came From Within” and that Jeff Goldblum remake of “The Fly” doing the adaptation of FSoG makes me a little bit nauseous.

However they choose to go about it, though, it would seem that people will eat it up with a goddamn spoon anyway… Which I will, too, if they simply cast [all together now!]:

TOM HIDDLESTON!

(Seriously, it’s just an excuse to post pictures of him now. And I’ll keep going. Seriously. Try me.)

But I digress.

I originally shuddered when I heard about Emma Roberts’s desire to play Anastasia Steele in the film adaptation, but then I thought better of it. She may actually be one of the better choices to capture how goddamn boring the Fifty Shades protagonist is.

R. Kelly’s painfully titled autobiography Soulacoaster: The Diary of Me comes out June 28. Who’s excited? Anyone? Anyone at all? I was really just excited to share the title with you.

An interview with Dave Eggers about his new novel A Hologram for the King.

My brother-in-law was [in Saudi Arabia] about four years ago, and when he came back, he described the trip, and it involved a good deal of waiting, waiting without any certainty or outcome. And he was working for an enormous company. I thought it was an interesting idea, to put an American businessman like Alan in a spot like that, where to get his life in order he has to make this one deal, but he has no agency. All he can do is wait. And he’s among a lot of other people waiting, too — waiting for the king to tell them what to do, waiting to see if their dreams are possible.

HOW PSYCHED AM I ABOUT THE “ANNA KARENINA” TRAILER?! Seriously, go watch it if you haven’t seen it already.

Good thing the Rock Bottom Remainders never quit their day jobs… Get it???

It took 20 years but the group Bruce Springsteen once praised as being almost as good as a lousy garage band is finally calling it quits.
